St. Martin de Porres Parish
Giving Hope to the Community

“St. Martin de Porres Parish helps to answer needs in the community. We stand proudly where we are as a beacon and an anchor. A mission parish means we are not at the same strengths that some of the suburban parishes are. The people we serve are more economically challenged and resources are hard to come by. People in the neighborhood are tough and resilient. They are people of integrity. Life has thrown them a lot of challenges and to survive they have an edge which give them a kind of “soft toughness” to help navigate and bear the many challenges that come their way. Therefore, they have many needs. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Catholic Charities Appeal has helped churches like this financially for a long time. When you support the Catholic Charities Appeal you help us to thrive, not just survive and to reach our full dignity of men and women.”

“I am so proud of Saint Martin de Porres Parish Men’s Ministry Group. It is a way to bring men together to help make our parish stronger and to educate the younger community. We volunteer our time every week to help clean the parish, put together care packages for Veterans and the homeless, we help at the parish food pantry, distribute clothes and so much more. The only way to get things done is to do them together. This is all made possible through the Catholic Charities Appeal. Volunteering your time is the easiest thing to do to help others. When our neighborhood sees Black men at our Church, they see Black men doing positive things. You never know how you can affect a person by the positive things you are doing. This parish is necessary and vital to our community. We are not asking questions on why you are here and why you need help; we just want to help and with the Catholic Charities Appeal support, we can.
